Hands Off the Safety Bar
Less than three weeks before my book is released to the world. You know that feeling you have in a rollercoaster, as it’s slowly ascending to the top of the ride, each mechanical crank a pull of anticipation, dread, and excitement? That’s me in the front car, clenching that safety bar and feeling like I’m about to soar… or hurtle.
So much happening. Received the hardcover “desk” copy of my book, a heavy, gorgeous indication that things are about to GET REAL. Filled out a questionnaire and wrote an essay for FSG’s Book Keeping, to be published when my book is published. Made bookmarks. Ordered little chocolate accordions. Read and blurbed another author’s debut novel! (Ah, the cycle of life…)
Gave the final OK for my author website to be unveiled. Take a look— there’s a lot of fun stuff to peruse. This gorgeous site (courtesy Julia Wyson Design), and this blog, is now part of the “SieWorld” realm. Coming soon: my own fragrance line and ranch dressing!
In an amazing confluence of all the strands of my life coming together to create a perfect weaving, I’ve just finished recording the MacMillan audiobook for Still Life Las Vegas. How wonderful, and rare, that I am able to use my voiceover life to amplify my writing life. It’s like using all the parts of the buffalo. Now, if I could only include a home-made baked good with each book, then all my separate personalities would merge into one!
I’ve written more about the whole experience for Book Keeping—I’ll let you know when it has posted. Let me just say that I can’t believe it only took three days to record, but that it was three very long days. And that it was more grueling, and way more fun than I thought it would be. More! I want to do more!
Book reading/signing dates are coming together. Right now I’ve got these:

If you can make it to one of these, it would be super cool, because it’s good to have friendly faces (or, any faces) in the audience. If you’re not able to attend it, then I’ve got an offer for you…
A VIRTUAL SIGNING!
Let me give you a little love for buying my book early. Apparently, the opening week sales of a book, like a movie’s opening weekend, are important, because they gauge likely public interest in the book. If you could order the book by AUGUST 15, I will personally send you a custom-made, signed bookplate. Here’s how it works:
- Order a book before August 15 (support your indie bookstore if you can, but those Amazon pre-orders are good too!)
- Send an email with a proof-of-purchase attachment (screencap, photo of a receipt) to “james@sieworld.com.”
- Give me your address and if you’d like me to sign it TO someone in particular (Christmas gifts! Christmas gifts!)
That’s it! I’d be so happy to send one your way.
All right, that’s it for now. I have to go rest my eyes, or my head will prematurely explode.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Hey! I was hoping to buy the audio version but also want to help with buying early – do you know when that is available? Or, these days maybe audio books are only an up/down load – and not a hard copy as they used to be. Are you snickering because I just asked a silly ? It’s not nice, james.
You know I’d be snickering, Wendy, but I honestly don’t know when that is going to be available. I think they’re going to try and time it to the book release, but we just recorded it last week so I don’t know when the due date is. And I think they will be having a hard copy, with art and everything. I’ll let you know when I know.
